hindsight's 20/20

today's photo was taken on my way home from Taco Casa last night... it was a beautiful sunset =)

tonight i went to Forney with Jim to take some photos of the baseball game. i prepared for the photo shoot by plugging my camera battery in to charge. at home.

i remembered about the charging battery when i arrived at the ballpark in Forney =) so... photo shoot FAIL for me tonight!

Monday, March 29, 2010

As someone who commutes to work every day from Terrell to Plano, I shouldn't have any problem driving to Forney to get dinner... but i wish they'd build a Taco Casa in Terrell!!

I have more photos over on my facebook page... the pregnant lady with the 'baby on board' shirt above beat me =)

it's beautiful outside... feels like hammock weather =)

Getting ready to head out to the Spring into Action 5k in Kaufman! I had my first 5k just 2 weeks ago, and i'll be heading to Austin in 2 more weeks for the Capital 10k on April 11!

ol' blue eyes

here we find ourselves at the end of another weekend. and for me, i will be celebrating my 41st birthday tomorrow! the time is definitely passing by more quickly each year =)

Today's photo was taken this afternoon... i managed to get frosty to sit still for a couple minutes while i snapped his photo. and yes, this is the actual color of his eyes when captured in the right light :-)

saturday evening post =)

Today's been a lazy day laying around the house... with snow in the forecast, and the cold, rainy weather outside it seemed like the smart thing to do =)

Today's photo is from the Terrell varsity baseball playing against Mabank earlier this week. I'll have some more photos posted over on my Facebook page later this weekend!

friday, at last!

happy friday and weekend to all... hopefully we won't get 'snowed' in with cold weather this weekend, but it seems likely if you listen to the weathermen =)

skywatch friday!

okay, okay... i missed a day. i'll try to do better =)

Today's photo is a little blurry, but I liked the color of the sky and it captured the actual color fairly well...

birthday hints...

on a recent walk through downtown Terrell, I saw this new Porsche four-door sedan. This was the first one I'd seen, so I snapped a shot so i could look it up later =)

it's a new model called a Panamera. with my birthday approaching, I wanted to post this so my grandma will have an idea of what to get me. it can count for Christmas too, since the $90,000 price tag is a little steep for just a birthday =)

like a fungus on a log

today's a good day to be lazing around outside in the sunshine! and thanks to Daylight Savings time, we'll have some extra daylight to enjoy this evening too!

Sleepy Saturday!

Well, I did it! This morning I completed my first 5k at the Dash Down Greenville race and fun run. I woke up several times last night afraid that I'd oversleep =)

This was my first race, and I thought having to weave in and out of walkers who'd lined up near the front was the most frustrating thing.

I was happy with my time - finishing in 34mins and 24 secs, I came in 127th in my age group and 1,990th overall out of 2,995 timed runners.

Today's photos were taken after the race - the first is the beer line =) A local brewery out of Ft Worth, Rahr & Sons, supplied the beer. They had both blonde and dark.

After about 4 cups I was able to determine it was some really good beer! But, then again, a free dark beer is always good =) It reminded me of a fraternity party trying to push my way up to the keg.

When I got home after the race I laid down and slept the rest of the afternoon away... all the anticipation and anxiety had worn me out more than the race itself =)

Now, I have my next race scheduled for March 27th in Kaufman - the Spring into Action Fun Run and Walk. I have 2 weeks now to work out and improve my time!

friday flashback

tonight's photo was taken in downtown Waxahachie last weekend. the old courthouse square and surrounding businesses filling the storefronts were interesting, and housed all kinds of antique and specialty stores.

tomorrow is my first 5k! my, how the time has flown since i signed up for this in january... i'm excited about drinking some green beer in the morning too =) wish me luck! i'll be wearing a timing tag, so i'll post my final results tomorrow..

after the rain...

a rain storm moved through tonight on my way home from work... and after it moved through, Jim and I went down to Kaufman to snap a few shots of the Terrell varsity soccer team play Kaufman.

I've had good luck with my day-time action shots, but still need some work on the dark evening photos =) I think this was my first soccer game this year where my fingers weren't numb from the cold at the end of the game.

Kaufman won the game 4-0, and you can check over at Jim's site for some more shots from the game over the next few days! TGIF tomorrow!!

mellow yellow

Made it through hump-day, and the weekend is now in sight! I'll be trying to run 3 miles tomorrow afternoon, which will be my last workout before the 5k on Saturday!

Today's photo was taken in downtown Waxahachie ... Jim posted a shot of the same flowers the other day, but he captured a mosquito in his photo. All I got was the flowers =)

Tuesday, March 9, 2010

i can see clearly

now the rain is gone! it was a beautiful day today, 75 degrees and sunny. this photo was taken yesterday right after the rain moved through Terrell - a rainbow across the street from my house... =)

i have 4 days left til my 5k 'Dash Down Greenville'... is it wrong that i'm more excited about the green beer on tap after the race than i am about the race itself? =)

Terrell Baseball Tournament - Waxahachie pt 2

As promised, here are a few more photos from the tournament held this past weekend in Waxahachie. I was trying to catch some of the pitches/hits in mid-air, so that's mainly all that I got - a lot of photos with no ball, and some caught just at the right moment =)

It was fun going through the photos afterward trying to locate where the ball was, knowing that it just had to be somewhere in the frame! And, as always, for more photos check over on my facebook page!

Made it through another Monday intact. And now i have just 5 days til my 5k... and it's raining outside, so I can't go run. I'm missing that gym membership right about now, with those indoor treadmills!

Terrell Baseball Tournament - Waxahachie

Just a quick post for now... a photo from yesterday's baseball tournament against Cedar Hill. I'll post more action photos later, right now it's time for breakfast at Denny's with grandma and then our weekly trip to Walmart! This photo kind of reminds me of a Norman Rockwell picture =)

I have some additional photos from Friday's game posted over on my facebook page...

p.s. Happy Big 4-0 to my boss Kim!! Embrace it!! (that's about all you can do, denying it doesn't work =))

friday night baseball

Just a quick post tonight. After work today I ran down to Waxahachie with Jim from Terrell Daily Photo to take some pics of the high school baseball team playing in a tournament.

They had back to back games starting at 5pm. =) I'll follow up tomorrow with more pics from the game.

I know Terrell lost to Birdville, but if you need details about this game or the rest of the tournament check out Jim's site for information!

fixer upper?

Trust me... it looks nice from afar, but they ALL have issues =) Today's photo is one of the older homes for sale on Griffith Ave. I'd love to have it, but i'm so close to owning my current house... 25 more months...I'll pass, but it is nice as far as curb appeal goes =)

happy humpday

Well, the final results aren't in just yet... but they're almost there...

As someone who works with numbers and reporting at my job, I just have to comment on the reporting method for Kaufman County... I had trouble getting the pdf file to refresh and populate on my screen. Every time the system went to re-load, my screen went blank/white. Maybe it was caused from too many visitors and not enough capacity? I don't know, but it was frustrating.

It would be nice to have something better for the next race!

In the local race for state rep, Lance Gooden beat good 'ole Betty Brown. =) Lance is leading by 108 votes out of a total of over 12k votes reported. That's a 1% difference, which is soveryclose. It definitely means that every vote counted in this race!

Results for the State Representative race between Gooden and Brown came from the Secretary of State's Office website - and is a good example of a site that is designed well for reporting data. And apparently was built for a lot of visitors all at once =) This type of site's reporting would be perfect for Kaufman! Take note!

waiting on final election results...

A few more pics from last night's soccer game between Terrell and the Forney Jackrabbits ... I have a few more photos posted on my facebook page here.

i'm still anxiously watching results from today's primary, and some of the races are very close. I'll follow up with final results tomorrow!

go vote!

Today's election day, so get out and exercise your right!

A few pics from the soccer game last night in Forney....

heard it thru the grapevine...

Ok, with primary voting going on tomorrow (if you haven't already early or absentee voted!!), I'm doing one more political post today with a few new ads from the Sunday issue of the Terrell Tribune.

In a way I gave Betty Brown some free advertising by posting her ad on Friday. To be fair, my first photo above is the latest ad for her opponent, Lance Gooden.

Lance makes several good points, in my opinion. (click the photo for a larger view) I'd heard before how Betty Brown promised to serve no more than 4 terms if elected to office. And now, 'six terms and a lifetime government pension later, Betty Brown is running for a 7th term.' And let's not forget that she wants Asian Americans to change their names to something more 'American'... Vote for Lance!

And next, one final ad from the Sunday edition. This is an ad for Andrew Jordan running against Rick Harrison to be the new District Attorney. I was originally going to say something about politicians using their kids for votes - but it really doesn't apply since it was the grandparents who did it this case =)

And honestly, you'd have to be pretty cold to disappoint little Harper Jordan - so get out and vote for her daddy, Andrew Jordan!
