Skywatch Friday - Terrell Power Outage

As I mentioned in the 'update' from yesterday, we had a power outage yesterday morning here in Terrell that lasted a little over an hour. Just long enough to freak out people who were trying to cook Thanksgiving dinner. =)
It turned out that a 'transformer' (i think that's what it's called) burned out a couple blocks down on my street. The cylindrical shape at the top of this pole had some burned up wires and black markings at the top where it blew out. Funny how a small problem can compound for so many people, and at the same time make you appreciate the little things in life. Like electricity =)

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Going out of town for the holiday? I'm looking forward to some chocolate chip pecan pie! I've got to do some extra walking this week to make up for all the food I'm about to eat =)
I hope everyone has a nice and safe holiday!
I hope everyone has a nice and safe holiday!
**Update: we had a brief power outage while I was posting this photo - it lasted for almost an hour, which I'm sure caused a lot of electric oven people a headache - I'll be following up with a photo later! In the meantime, here's a photo of my oven. It's the original old O'keefe and Merritt stove that came with my house. I kept it in the remodel last year =) It's not big enough to cook a big turkey, but at least it worked during the power outage =) :

Grapes of Wrath

Please forgive my lapse in posting yesterday, I found myself busy with work the past few days preparing for holidays and lost track of time.... when I say lost track of time, that means I was up until 1:30am working on things and I normally get up to go to the gym at 4:30am. That didn't happen. And I still didn't get a workout in tonight either - I'll have to get a good one tomorrow before and after eating!
Today's photo is a wrought iron gate with some grape adornment! how appropos....

Christmas wreath

I truly do love Christmas. The season itself and the mood and feeling that comes with Christmas. The feeling escapes me when I'm trying to maneuver my basket around Wal-mart on Sunday morning, but walking around the downtown area and looking at the window displays brings it back =)
Congratulations to my brother and his new wife who were married Saturday night (11-22) in Missouri! Good luck Greg and Diana!!!! Greg - please always remember these 5 important words "i'm sorry, i was wrong!"

Store Window Reflections

Today's shot is a little 'busy', but I liked the way it turned out. This is another Christmas display in the florist down the street from me. I was originally taking the photo of the 'Merry Christmas' sign hanging in front of a mirror -- but the reflections of the First National Bank across the street are a commanding presence as well =)

Friday night Frosty

Sorry for the short posts this week... I've started walking in the evenings now in addition to working out in the mornings... I swear I'm not going to recognize myself on my 40th birthday next year =)
Tonight I have an updated photo of Frosty, my kitten. He's right around 6 months old now and I have to say very vocal. And not a normal meow either - he's got a throaty gurgling murmur kind of noise that he walks around the house making. Not all the time, but quite often. I'm hoping to get it on video to post; he quiets down when he knows I'm near with the camera =)

O'pine tree

In the week since the final decision on the presidential election, local trees have begun outwardly expressing their support for the president-elect, Obama.
For anyone who missed it, Terrell found itself in the news last week relating to the presidential election. We were even covered on the Rachel Maddow show - our little ole' town in the national news!
Normally we're known as the 'crazy town' where the mental hospital is located. Now we're known as the town whose local paper decided to not cover the Obama victory. At all. Our paper's wednesday edition had no Obama victory story. Nothing. The local paper's editor made a statement when questioned by other local news organizations about his decision and replied 'we're a newspaper, not a memory book.' So, we are the town who thinks the first black president is not news. The ouster of the Republican party and ushering in a Democratic winner is not news. I'm so proud....
Old smoky

Well, we've had rain last night and all morning and I haven't been out for any new pics! So, I'm dipping into the archives to post this photo of my last cigarette... this is the last cigarette out of the last pack that I bought back in June. This particular one is the last one I smoked back on June 24.
I still crave one every once in a while, but I feel so much more healthy now and I've saved TONS of money =)

We are the World Pumpkin

People around the world were tuning in to watch the results of the American elections last night... and I hope they finally realized that there are a lot of us out in America who NEVER voted for Bush and have suffered a long 8 years... I remember the awful feeling 4 years ago when I was sure all day that Kerry would win, only to be disappointed when watching the returns. I promised myself not to let my hopes get up too high last night -- but once I saw Ohio called for Obama I knew it was over. The networks still waited another 40 minutes, until the polls closed in California, before calling the whole thing over... after the last few elections going deep into the night with horrible stories about voting irregularities and problems it was nice to make an early evening of it!
Today's photo is one of the pumpkin entries from our halloween contest at work. I thought this one was pretty creative - however, the contest was really a pumpkin 'carving' contest - so this one won a prize for creativity =)

V*O*T*E - Election Day 2008!!!

Today's the day, if you haven't already done so - please, get out and vote! No matter who you support, get out and let your voice be heard.
And for today's photo, we've got a brief history on the failed banks - who knew that each major bank failure occurred during a Republican presidency? Hmm... had enough? =)

Springs around Eminence Missouri

Two of my favorite aunts (identical twins) went on a little road trip yesterday, and gifted me with some beautiful photos of natural springs around Eminence Missouri, the destination of their short trip =)
The first photo above is my favorite, called 'Blue Springs'. Next one below is 'Round Springs'.

This next one is Alley Springs, and is actually where the old mill wheel used to exist that ran the nearby mill. Even the trees think this place is romantic =)

This is 'Falling Springs' - appropriately named =) And lastly we have 'Falling Rock' which looks like a really neat rock formation in the water!

Thanks for the pics Carlene!!
