This site of this turreted home in Mineola is the birthplace of Ima Hogg, the daughter of Texas Governor Jim Hogg. According to the joke Ima had a sister named Ura, but this official historical marker doesn't mention a sister =)

Earth Hour - Saturday, March 28, 2009
In honor of Earth Hour tonight, I turned off non-essential electricity throughout the house for an hour. I measured my normal electricity use before and during also to see what impact turning everything off would have, and here are the results:
normal electricity usage from 7:30p - 8:30p = 2 kwh
electricity usage from 8:30p - 9:30p (Earth Hour) = 0.5kwh
I left the fridge on, but other than that I pretty much sat in darkness, except for a few candles... i should probably also note that i have energy efficient lights throughout the house anyway - so i've already made some changes to conserve in daily life =)
Beckham Hotel
One more shot of the Beckham in downtown Mineola. This shows it was built in 1928... I'll have to see if I can find some more history on it - it was a large hotel and looked like it must've been quite 'happening' in its day.

Beckham Hotel
Mineola, Texas - east of Terrell. It appears this old building has seen better days. I love these old neon signs though - it would be cool to see the sign restored =)

Pacific Street
Today's home is located on Pacific St in Terrell. This house is 'catty-corner' to yesterday's photo, and has been undergoing a recent renovation. It's received all new windows and a brand new paint job - which is supposed to be returning the home to its original color scheme from when it was built. I've always liked this home too, and like the way this remodel is turning out!

Nash and Pacific Street
This home located on the corner of Nash and Pacific streets has always held some charm, or so I thought. The house is up for sale now, and I recently got up close for a good look through the windows and around the house itself..... let's just say it looks kinda pretty from the street! It was built right around 1900, and has some cool features - but it needs some TLC and work!

Pink Victorian Home
Today's turret photo is a home right next door to yesterday's green house! They built two homes right next door to each other that kind of mirror each other. This one needs work like yesterday's also... it's not really visible from this angle, but the left side of the house leans inward. The tree on the left hand side of the pic hides that visual =)

Brin Street Victorian home
Ok.. now admittedly.. when I first moved here to Terrell 12 years ago, I didn't particularly care for this house. I did like the style, and definitely would've liked it in it's original state - but the deterioration and all just seemed too much for me to consider owning for myself...
well, a couple years ago the owners came in and repaired the roof and painted - and it looks pretty nice to me now! I mean, I know it's still not perfect - at one time there must've been a 2nd floor porch (hence the door in mid-air)... but I'm sure the inside is much better than the outside... and not everything has to be restored to its initial condition... things age, and that's ok.... (40 is creeping up on me!)

Downtown Dallas
I found this building right outside the Dallas Museum of Art, after attending the King Tut exhibit today. The exhibit was pretty amazing; the advanced techniques they applied in building the various objects from so long ago was really neat to see. We also saw a short 3-D movie relating to the exhibit, and that was pretty neat too. I own some stock in a 3-D movie theater chain, but had never actually seen one - very cool!! Oh, and I don't recommend stocks - anything I usually buy immediately goes down in value -- the 3-D stock went from around $4 per share down to the one dollar range in a very short period of time =)
p.s. the building is the Trammel Crow Center =)

Springtime wildflower
Means allergies and hay fever... and sinus problems. At least for me =) I'm not sure if this is an actual Texas Bluebonnet or a variety, it doesn't look like the normal ones I see.... i've always liked wildflowers - we did a project on cataloguing various native Texas wildflowers when I was in high school =)

Tree Swing
This reminds me of a tree swing that I played on as a kid... i was always afraid of a snake hiding on the inside of it =)

Emphysema Clinic
Today's photo is a house in Commerce, Texas. I lived in this house from 1989-1990 with 3 of my fraternity brothers. All 4 of us smoked, and we had LOTS of parties in this house with drinking, smoking, loud music, burnt carpets and such... it was college after all.
Anyway, we called this the 'emphysema clinic' cause we'd wake up in the mornings after a party - all 4 of us coughing and hungover while lighting a cigarette - and coughing some more.... this house is located on 'Lee St.' in Commerce, and is just one block from campus. I could sleep until 7:50a and make it to an 8am class =)
p.s. march 24 will mark 9 months since i quit smoking!
Looking up?

Commerce Texas
This is the tunnel that runs beneath highway 50 on the Texas A&M University Commerce campus.
An update on the website - I finally have the address back for http://www.texasdailyphoto.com/ - now I just have to figure out how to get it re-attached to my blogspot address =) something's changed in the way I had it set up before and when it gets down to DNS and hosting and CNAME etc. it goes way beyond my technical knowledge... but hopefully i'll have it figured out in another day (it takes a day for the address to update across internet servers too, so that could be my problem now with this delay and updating) ?

Glass Brick
Sorry for the sporadic posting lately... the problems I've had with Google and Google Apps in getting my website name back has been a little stressful for me, and also given me a reason to take a short break... I've also been taking a break from working out over these past 10 days... I've only worked out twice since Feb 18! Quite a long break for me, since I've gone to the gym and/or worked out 4-5 days a week for 7 months now.
I think I'm ready to start posting daily again... and made it to the gym tonight also... and here's my late theme day post, for glass... I was somehow sidetracked after prepping the photo yesterday, and forgot to do my post! =) par for the course for me, it seems i'm always running late....
