happy friday!!! ok, it's been almost a year since i announced my plans to paint the house... so i guess i should get busy =) i'm going to see what i can accomplish this weekend!

Terrell Heritage Museum

I am going to try and make it back down to the museum this Sunday to take some more 'old' pics of Terrell.... I'll try for a new before and after series!! =) Happy Friday, I'm ready for the weekend!

First National Bank

One more old photo today, looking east down Moore (highway 80)... this photo shows the original Iris sign, much different than the current one!

Catherine and Moore Intersection

Today's before and after is another one from the downtown 'strip' of Terrell - the closest intersection is 'Catherine Street'... many of the old buildings are still there and open for business! To the far left is American National Bank - which is still there, but has a glass exterior over the old building. The First National bank has the triangular frontpiece - which is still there also, but a little hard to see through the shadows. =) i hope to make it back down to the museum to get some more photos soon!

Buford Drugs - Downtown Terrell

As a follow up to yesterday's post, here is a current shot of the old Buford Drugs building - now the home to Best Tan and Serendipity Gifts and Decor. I didn't get quite the same angle, but it's the same building and corner =)

Moore and Frances

Today's photo is the intersection of Frances and Moore streets... it's so strange to see so many people walking around downtown in these old photos. Today we get a lot of cars driving through, but not much foot traffic at all.. =)

Catherine and Nash Street

Today's old photo was taken on my trip to the Terrell Heritage Society museum last weekend... I didn't grow up in Terrell, so I enjoyed looking at the old street scene photos and thinking about how things have changed...

The 'Auto Parts' store has been replaced by Wells Fargo, but all the other buildings in the background are still existing for the most part. The 'old' photo was taken in 1964 - and I wasn't able to get the exact angle today, but I got as close as I could.

R.L. Warren House

As promised, one more photo of the mansion on the corner of Ninth and Griffith - known on the Texas Historical Registry as the 'R.L. Warren House'. R.L. Warren was a longtime Terrell resident, and served in the Texas State Senate from 1911-1915.

Ninth and Griffith

Today's photo is the historic home on the corner of Ninth and Griffith streets. The old photo is one I photographed at the museum on Sunday. The beauty of this building is timeless! And to be honest, my 'after' photo here was taken in 2007 - i'll follow up tomorrow with an 'up-to-date' photo. The current owners have done a lot of landscaping changes since I took this last one!

pc troubles :-(

Well, I had a fatal pc crash last night and lost everything from 2009 on my pc. Luckily I had recently backed up 2008, and thought I'd done up through April - but apparently not... After restoring the system late last night and checking the portable hard drive, I only backed up 2008! so... i lost lots of pics =( oh well - now i need to get out and take some more - and be more conscientious about backing up my photos!!!

luckily my mom and grandma gave me an ipod for my birthday back in march, so i have all my songs still - saved by the portable storage devices!!!

Texas Weeds

Today's photo is a small blue flower that grows on a weed out in the yard =) the actual size of the flower is about as big as a pencil eraser... I don't normally even pay attention to these weeds much - but on close inspection, it's kinda pretty =)

Storm Damage

A few more photos of the storm damage from over the weekend. A few windows were knocked out of the upper floors above Hard Bodies...

Bass Rutledge lost a section of their awning on the side of the building facing Frances Street.

A metal building's roof in the business park south of the train tracks and east of highway 34 was peeled back from the corner and several metal panels lay strewn around.

Lastly, this Bradford Pear tree next to the old railroad depot in downtown Terrell was just cracked clean off the base. The 2nd half of the tree was picked up and carried about 30 feet away!

Smart Start Tree Toppled

I procrastinated too long yesterday to do my Saturday post, and ended up losing power at my house around 7pm when a bad storm rolled through. I was without power til after 4am this morning!

My photo for today is the tree that was uprooted at the Smart Start Learning Center on the corner of Rockwall and Brin Streets. There was lots of damage all around town - you can check Jim's site over at Terrell Daily Photo for some more photos!!

I always liked this building... it's located right in downtown Commerce, Tx...
