Iris Theater at Night

This photo was taken downtown tonight. I only watched one movie at the Iris Theater before they closed, and that was Titanic. In the middle of the movie a train came through town and you couldn't hear the movie at all...

Shortly after the train, when the boat in the movie was sinking, the movie broke... and half the people in the theater got up and left because they thought the movie was over (there were only about 6 people total to begin with) =) the camera-man finally got it fixed a little later and i got to see the rest of the movie.

The theater is now home to Books & Crannies Bookstore who had the old neon sign restored to its original state back in Sept of 2008. Jim has a post of the grand re-lighting of the sign after being re-furbished here.

Sometimes you win!

Sometimes you win!!

The event organizers held the awards ceremony following the race today. When they began to announce the 40-49 year old age group, I was surprised to hear that Jim won 3rd place for the age group! He won a little horseshoe trophy with a plaque that said Eustace Pioneer days; generic with no names.

Since I finished before him, that meant that I won too! I was called next, and won 2nd place with my finish time of 32:10.

Then came the awards for 50-59, male and female. Then 60-69, etc. And then several minutes later the announcer said they'd discovered several mistakes.

Later he announced the 70+ male awards and the overall male and female awards. Then he said they had some corrections coming.

Of course the mistake must be us winning, right? I mean afterall, the day started with them having no record of our registration on-line. Murphy's law and all that.

Then he said it - we have a correction to the 40-49 male awards. Jim went up before they said anything, figuring they wanted his back.

I was so happy to win an award. Finally. After all these sweaty days of training. I waited, hoping they weren't going to pull the thing out of my hands among some kicks and screams. I wanted that horseshoe award!

Then he said it - is Brian Stout here? So I kicked and screamed and gave it back.

But I still finished the race. And who needs a cheap old horseshoe made in China anyway...

So sometimes you lose on the same day you won... such is life.

Pioneer Days 5k

If you're around Eustace, Texas in the morning you can find me and Jim running in the Pioneer Days 5k at 8am! This will be my 4th 5k to run this year, and my goal is to beat my last time of 32:26...

After a good sweaty run, a beer with some chips and salsa sounds good...and Taqueria Dos Aces is a local favorite in downtown Terrell.

If you enjoy taking photos, click on the Worldwide Photo Walk banner in the right hand column (or right here) and join us on the Terrell Photowalk on Saturday July 24th from 9a-11am. It's a great chance to meet other local photographers, amateur and professional, and shoot some photos around downtown Terrell.

Following the walk you can also submit your best or favorite photo for a chance to win great prizes from Scott Kelby! So click that link for details!

Terrell Photowalk 2010 - head's up!

On Saturday, July 24, Jim and I will be sponsoring the 2nd annual Terrell Photowalk as part of Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photowalk 2010. As host last year, Jim brought about 30 photographers in to take shots of downtown Terrell as well as the homeplace of Dr. L.E. Griffith.

Click on the link in the right hand column or right here to sign up to attend!

The Terrell Photowalk is scheduled from 9a-11a on Saturday, July 24th and everyone is welcome to come and take photos! The current plan is to photograph around downtown Terrell, but we may add a 2nd location before the event!

Following the walk, one photo will be selected out of all submitted by participants. The submitted photo will then be judged among entries from across the world for a chance to win great prizes!

Click on the link here for more info from Scott Kelby's website, and I'll be providing additional details over the next month also!

Today's photos: After taking the photo of the Kaufman QB above, I had to drop my camera and step out of the way when I realized the receiver was coming directly toward me... I want to record the action not get knocked down by it =)
