Terrell Christmas Tree

well, it's officially Christmas season now - I'm watching 'It's a Wonderful Life' while I'm working on my post. My favorite part is at the very end when brother Harry returns home from war and toasts, "to my big brother George, the richest man in town..."

And next comes the part with the bell ringing and Zuzu saying her teacher told her about the angel getting their wings and all =) sigh... it's one of my favorite movies ever, and for whatever reason makes me cry at that ending part every single time!

Tonight's photo is the Christmas tree on display in downtown Terrell on the southeast corner of the intersection at Moore Ave and Rockwall St.

terrell tigers vs dallas conrad

Tonight i went down to the high school to get in some more practice with my action photography. I'm still playing around with the automatic settings, but it seems like the lighting in the Rockwall-Heath gym last week was a little better.

prayers to Segura and Roa families

I'd like to send my thoughts and prayers to the families of sisters Ana and Jacqueline Segura and their friend Viridiana Roa. These three young girls were struck and killed by a car while trying to cross hwy 34 in Terrell last Friday evening.

Additional information can be found here at The Terrell Tribune.

For those who are looking for a way to help, the American National Bank has set up a donation fund that will assist the families with burial expenses. Donations can be taken directly to the bank or to any school campus c/o TISD Fine Arts Director Dana Skelton.

The photo today is the teddy bear memorial that has been left by well-wishers on the corner of State Street and Hwy 34.

Santa is a Cowboy?

That's what they believe at Risinger's Country Store, at least! Tonight's first photo is the window display at Risinger's. The last 2 photos shows the view east and southwest from the front of the store window....

This coming Saturday at 10am, December 12th, is the Terrell Christmas Parade! click the link for additional info from the Tribune...

Terrell Christmas Tour of Homes

The Neel Home (c. 1893)
The Arthur Home (c. 1900)
The Voight Home (c. 2002)
The Simpson Home (cool 'Coca-Cola' Kitchen =))
The Wharton Home (c. 1959)

The Social Science Club of Terrell held its 13th annual 'Christmas Tour of Homes' on Saturday. The annual tradition started in 1997, the same year I moved to Terrell, and this was the first time I've attended... =)

The club formed way back in 1894, and in its current objective works on the "intellectual development of their members through interesting programs, but, foremost has been their projects to raise money for worthwhile community causes."

Being the owner of an old Craftsman home in various stages of remodel, I really enjoyed seeing the older homes on the tour the most. I like getting ideas for things I can do to fix things around my home - and looking through the historic homes gives me a peak into the yesteryear of Terrell and seeing how 'the other half' lived way back when.

I was also reminded to never judge a book by its cover! One of the homes in particular, the Arthur home, looks deceivingly small from the outside! And the original heart pine floors inside were impressive!

Its less than 3 weeks until Christmas, and only 25 days until the new year 2010! Here's hoping for a good ending to the year!
