Seis mas dias!

And to those who don't live in Texas, that's 'six more days' in espanol and ingles for you =) Today's photo is a storefront in downtown Terrell for the City's Marketing Center. I like the reflections of the opposite side of the street - there are quite a few reflective buildings downtown...

Victorian homes

This is another one of the older homes in my neighborhood that I really love. I always wanted a big 2 story house like this as a child, and now I live around several cool ones. This one needs some restoration work, but I still think it looks neat... from personal experience, when you buy a home like this the projects are usually done a little bit at a time cause it all adds up so quickly money-wise!

Red River Bridge

I took a quick trip up to Oklahoma on Saturday to help my grandma celebrate her recent 82nd birthday at the Choctaw Casino.... she ended up being pretty lucky and came home 'ahead', while I spent everything I'd taken =) This bridge crosses the Red River below the Lake Texoma dam...

If i only had a brain

This is one of the fall decorations that can be found around the downtown area of Terrell right now...

Our weather here has been nice and chilly at night, and then beautiful warm (but not too hot) days... =) I love the fall!

Friday Night Frosty

I was trying to think of a good caption for this photo of Frosty... he looks bored with me. I thought of 'Be gone with you, human...' =)

I Early Voted Today!!!

This is the Terrell Bowling Center at night - with a couple burned out bulbs =) I don't have much else to say except this hasn't been 'shopped at all (the other side of the sign says WL) =)

Get out and vote!

An Alternate Universe

In fairness to everyone, my photo today is definitely NOT my house - it's the front yard of the 'other side'. =)

In the middle of all the negativity that seems to come out during this season, I think the important thing to remember is the state of our economy and country and the need to come together to get to 'shakin' up and fixin' things' after everything is said and done in 13 days....We all live in this country and we all will need to have a part in putting it back together.

Oh yeah, and this photo is also a veritable checklist of who NOT to vote for =)
(Breathwit, Shoen, Mccain and even Betty Brown! ) Just kidding - to each his own, the important thing is just to get out and vote. (and vote Democrat!)

I'd also like to add this youtube video of Mama Cass and John Denver singing on a variety show years ago - and they discuss the election going on back at that time before beginning the song. A timeless and important message about voting!

Obama Yard Sign

I mentioned last week that I was waiting for a political yard sign, but didn't give much detail. I donated to the Obama campaign after the 2nd debate and the 'offer' at the time was that any donation over $15.00 would receive a yard sign before October 17th, which was this past Friday. I'd been waiting and waiting for the sign to come, and then went out of town on Thursday, the day before the deadline. I thought for sure that I was going to be let down upon my return, but I was surprised to find my package on my doorstep on the deadline - Friday, Oct 17th!

So, here's to election 2008! It's almost over!

Brin Street, Terrell

Today's photo was taken on one of my local walks =) This Friday will be 4 months smoke-free for me... and almost 3 months working out now! I really am not sure who I am anymore, and not sure if I'll recognize myself by Christmas. I smoked for over 20 years, so this 4 month milestone is quite impressive even to myself!

Texas - Early Voting begins Oct 20!

One more photo from my trip to Vicksburg, an addition to my flag collection =) A reminder to all that early voting begins on October 20th in Texas, which is tomorrow! It felt good to see and hear Colin Powell's reasoned decision in selecting Obama on Meet the Press today. I've always liked Gen. Powell, and have had a copy of his rules for life hanging in my work cubicle for a long time.
If you are in need of voting information in Texas, please visit the link here to the Secretary of State....

They're worth repeating:

Colin Powell's 13 rules for life:

1. It ain't as bad as you think. It will look better in the morning.
2. Get mad, and then get over it.
3. Avoid having your ego so close to your position that when your position falls, your ego goes with it.
4. It can be done!
5. Be careful what you choose. You may get it.
6. Don't let adverse facts stand in the way of a good decision.
7. You can't make someone else's choices. You shouldn't let someone else make yours.
8. Check small things.
9. Share credit.
10. Remain calm. Be kind.
11. Have a vision. Be demanding.
12. Don't take counsel of your fears or naysayers.
13. Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier.

On the road again

I took a short trip with some friends on Thursday to Vicksburg, Ms and visited the Ameristar Casino... along with several other casinos =) and on the drive home to Terrell we stopped in Shreveport and gambled a little more... I did a little better in Shreveport and managed to win a some money back =)

Midland Hydraulics is Marlow Oil

I posted a photo several months ago of the Midland Hydraulics building which is located behind the old Mobil/New Texaco in downtown Terrell. Soon after posting my photo, I noticed someone had cleaned up the grass and trees and then began painting. Not long after the sign was updated and changed to Marlow Oil. So - today's photo is a before and after shot!

Final Debate Night

For better or worse, whichever presidential candidate that wins is going to have their work cut out for them. Both candidates seemed to agree that it would be at least 10 years before we see some kind of movement away from our dependence on oil from the middle east... and honestly, I hope John McCain is still going strong in 10 years but he seems very frail. My opinion. I am biased of course, I'm the one sitting here waiting for my Obama yard sign still...

Shipley's Mishap Sunday

My grandma and I go to Wal-mart every Sunday morning, and fairly often we stop to get a donut and coffee on the way (the thought is that if I'm not hungry, I won't buy out the store) =)

Well, the excitement today at Shipley's donut was that an elderly customer in a van hit the gas instead of the brakes as he pulled into the front parking space. And, you can see the rest. The owner of Shipley's was on the phone trying to get an insurance adjustor out to Terrell on a Sunday morning to view the damage.

She said the van had came through the window about 30 minutes before we arrived, and didn't damage the vehicle at all!

BH Daves

Tonight's shot is a window display of BH Daves Appliances in downtown Terrell. As the sign says, the store has been in operation since 1921! Pretty cool, in my opinion. I bought a set of LG stackable washer and dryer last year, and I have to say I LOVE THEM! the extra money for a front loader is well worth it, i think! i love the light inside the dryer so you can get that last sock! i sound like i should be selling appliances =) 23 days left til the election!

tomorrow is the 11th anniversary of the passing of singing great John Denver. A youtube video in remembrance of him:

Edgewood steeple

Another one from the archives today... I'm going to get some new pics this weekend! this steeple is in the historical park in downtown Edgewood. In this little park area you can also find reproduction vintage groceries and other services you'd find in an old rural town =)

Neon signs

I'm not sure where the Last Methodist church is located, but the First Methodist is just a few blocks from my house near downtown Terrell. This is another local neon sign that I'd like to see repaired and lit up! I like neon signs =)

Downtown Terrell

Tonight is one from the archives... this is downtown Terrell as seen from the front of B.H.Daves Appliance store looking to the southeast.

2nd Presidential Debate - Nashville

Get your drinking game rules in place 'My Friends' it's time to list out the 'Mavericky' keywords you should take a drink to everytime they're heard tonight! I don't expect 'you betcha' to be one used by McCain, but let's see if he uses 'Joe Six Pack!'
**Update 9:15pm - 17 'my friends' so far... heheheheh

Joe Six Pack?

I've been on the lookout for the average 'Joe Six Pack' that everyone seems to be talking about lately. While walking around Canton, Texas on Saturday afternoon I think I may have come close. I'm pretty sure the guy who hooked this window unit A/C up in his tent may be him! Say it isn't so, Joe!

Coke Cooler

I saw this old coke cooler during a quick stop in Canton this weekend. I'd love one of these for my back porch, but I love the $850.00 that it costs more! (call me cheap)

Nosy Rosy Antiques

When I saw this store recently it made me think of my grandma. I usually call her Rosy if I'm not calling her Brook.... Rosy is always accompanied with the Nosy, and Brook because she likes to babble.... =)
