Guess Who?

This isn't a political blog normally, but we'll make an exception for one day. I attended my first-ever political rally today in downtown Dallas with my boss, Kim. Kim and I have been co-workers and friends for over 10 years and have both voted in primaries and elections through the years but never actually attended a rally.

So, today we decided to go see Hillary Clinton in her 'get out and early vote' rally. Texas voting is a little bit strange, in that 2/3rds of our delegates will be pledged during the primary voting on March 4th; but the remaining 1/3rd of our delegates will be allotted by caucuses held after the voting ends at 7pm on March 4th.

Tragically, on the way to the rally that started at 9am today, one of the motorcycle policemen in her motorcade had a horrific accident. The officer hit a concrete barrier on the Houston Street viaduct, and was thrown about 30 feet from his motorcycle. He died later after being rushed to the hospital.

It was an awful thing to learn about when we returned to work, and prayers go out to this officer's family. This reminds us of all that police do for us, as they encounter dangerous situations every day on the job....

In her appearance later, Hillary spoke of her appreciation for the police and everything they do for her and all of us. She also called her 2nd rally short in order to go to the hospital and visit with his family. You can see some of the Secret Service travelling to protect her in the photos... an unfortunate necessity in today's world, especially in Dallas....

Brian, your blog today is truly wonderful, full of good information about Texas primary voting, a tribute to the tragedy involving a public servant and some great photos of Hillary. It must have been both a sobering and exciting day.

I can NOT believe everyone is allowed that close to her & that womans phone RIGHT IN THE FACE! I wonder if she thought she was close enough to Hillary or was striving for a closer CLOSE UP!

Great photos, Brian! I, too, am surprised that people could get that close. We couldn't get anywhere near Priscilla Presley last night.

This year's election is quite interesting so far, isn't it?

When they're campaigning, I find that most politicians seem to want to get very close to the public and I like that. It was the same when Dukakis and Quayle came to NC State when I was in college. I like the sneek-peek quality of the first shot Brian. Nice entry.

Hey Brian...nice job on your posting! I have been super-stoked since the rally. Did you hear that Bill is going to be at a rally in Arlington this morning? I'm going this afternoon for early voting, then I'm going to caucus, caucus, caucus on the 4th. Wished we were in the same precint! :)

Nice post. Firstly, the loss of the policeman is awful and must have been shocking for all involved.

Secondly, great photos of Hillary!

And finally, the current political race is fascinating! I'm in the UK and am excited by Hillary and hope she makes it to the Whitehouse. It will be an interesting time ahead!

I didn't even know Hillary was in Dallas. I was so busy catching up on cleaning the domino barf my kids were practicing all day Saturday.

That's really sad about that policeman though.
